22 March 2024: Two Hertfordshire MPs and the Leader of Herts County Council have shown their support for the tourism and hospitality industry in Hertfordshire during English Tourism Week (15 March - 24 March) by visiting local businesses.

On Friday 15 March, Bim Afolami MP paid a visit to the North Hertfordshire Museum in Hitchin and the Leader of Herts County Council, Councillor Richard Roberts visited the newly rebranded Hertfordshire Zoo.  On Friday 22 March, Gagan Mohindra MP visited The Warner Bros Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.  All were accompanied by staff from Visit Herts and the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

Deirdre Wells OBE – the CEO of Visit Herts and Chair of English Tourism Week said: “The success of English Tourism Week has grown year on year and it means such a lot to the businesses to have their local MP make the time to come and show their support and hear about plans for the future as well as current challenges.

“The sheer variety and ingenuity of our tourism industry in Hertfordshire can be seen in these visits – from our innovative attractions to our cultural institutions and these organisations do so much to enhance our local communities.  This is a key reason why our visitor economy has bounced back strongly after the pandemic and is almost back to the visitor levels and revenue seen in 2019. I am looking forward to a bumper summer season in the county.”

English Tourism Week is an initiative organised by VisitEngland.  A programme of events has taken place across the country to raise awareness of the size, value, and importance of tourism to our local, regional, and national economies. The theme for this year’s event is “Supporting tourism, the heart of our communities”, with activities specifically focussed on highlighting the visitor economy’s social, cultural and economic impact.

Residents of Hertfordshire can win free tickets to local attractions in April. The ballot is now open and closes on 1 April. To find out more visit https://www.hertsbigweekend.co.uk/
